Crazy Goals

Posted On Jul 21 2015 by

Writers have to think a year ahead, especially once we’ve gotten a series going and it’s gaining fans.  I’m on book 4 of the Cherry Hill Series and am already planning the next series, which I’ve titled NIGHT MOVES. This is a paranormal series and a bit darker than Cherry Hill. It is also not YA.  However, I still intend to write another YA series. When? Next year. At the same time I’m writing NIGHT MOVES. In fact, it will follow and intersect the NIGHT MOVES story line.  Crazy goals. But that’s how we push ourselves. We keep getting …

Wattpad Lessons

I had the pleasure of interviewing Katherine Ganzel for the Teen Writers Publish! podcast on Saturday. Most will have never heard of Katherine, but she’s 2014 Watty award winner and has close to 30,000 followers on Wattpad. She’s also a Wattpad ambassador.  I must admit, I’d never heard of Wattys or Wattpad ambassadors until a few months ago. In a half hour interview, I learned how much I’d been doing wrong on Wattpad and the amazing possiblities of becoming an active participant on that platform.  So today I entered NOW I KNEW YOU in the 2015 Watty awards. A …

The following is the author’s forward for a series of short books my partner, Gina Conroy, and I are publishing under the title Teen Writer’s Publish! The books and the associated podcast are more than writing and publishing instruction. #InstaWritingLessons

Posted On Apr 11 2015 by

After years of messing around on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and other variations of the theme, I’ve finally found a social media group I rather enjoy. Instagram is still a place one can go and be more or less free of the advertising and general ugliness of many social media sites.  Since I follow other readers, I’ve found that many of them are also aspiring writers. It got me to a-wonderin’ if we could have a little writing lesson on Instagram every day or so. So I started the #InstaWritingLessons hashtag. I’m posting a lesson via photo and short text …

Top 10 #RealisticYA Books

Posted On Apr 7 2015 by

A certain Mr. Green and company started a realistic YA hashtag last week, so I thought I’d add my best 10 #RealisticYA book ideas to this week’s list. Any similarity to my own childhood is purely coincidental. 10. Teen girl must choose a faction in future Chicago. Chooses the one with the biggest book store. 9.  Teen girl crushes on boy at their private school in Paris. They kiss. Really, that’s it. 8.  Teens spend summers on their rich grandfather’s island. Question his values. He buys them stuff. They decide it’s okay. 7.  Teen boy wakes up in a …

What’s next in Cherry Hill

A funny thing happens after you’ve written that first book in a series. You write the second. Well, besides that. The ideas start to flow like a well-oiled faucet (I’m practicing my mixed metaphors). With Now I Knew You published and Angel ‘n Me in editing, book three made me stop and ask questions.  Why is my fictional town of Cherry Hill such a lightning rod for these supernatural events? We got a small taste of it in book one, ramped it up in book 2, and now in book 3 it’s time to open the spiritual valve.  And …
